What Makes Invisible Katana Artwork Unique
So, what makes Invisible Katana Artwork stand out in the sea of artists, web developers, photographers, and creators? I am a fine artist first and then a designer, photographer, videographer, etc. Because of my artistic gifts and background, I generally always take a different creative approach to all parts of my craft. My first love, fine art, bleeds into everything that I do – into every fiber of my craft. Every photo, every video edit, keystroke, it’s all filtered through love of fine art. I don’t just make a video or take a photo, I aim to create a work of art. View my art.
My Education, Training, and Mentors
Although I was in advanced placement art classes in high school, attended an airbrush workshop with Dru Blair, and took graphic art in high school many years ago, I consider myself to be self-taught. In addition to this, I have an associate’s degree in general studies from Tri-County Technical College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Clemson University.
I am a multimedia artist and freelance graphic designer who enjoys painting on unconventional canvases and canvas alike. Spray paint, acrylic paints, paint markers, unconventional brushes, and many other mediums are what I use to achieve unique pieces of art. Currently, I only use Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop for my digital artwork and graphics. Mac, at least when it comes to art (and telephones), is my preference but, I am familiar with Windows as well.
Established in 2017, Named to Honor a Great Man
I’m often asked the question, “Why the name ‘Invisible Katana Artwork?” I am very proud to answer that question because it honors a great man and a dear friend of mine. “Invisible Katana Artwork” is after the invisible sword used by my Japanese language and culture instructor at Clemson University, the late Dr. E. Leslie Williams (Williams-Sensei) to discipline us when it was evident we hadn’t prepared for class. You can read a blog about him and my experience learning from him here. Unfortunately, he passed away young shortly after my time at Clemson. You can read his obituary here.
Artist Who Have influenced me the most
Labels are not really for me but, I would have to say that I am probably a pop artist. This soul of mine is old and my interests are much older than I am so, a lot of subject matter is vintage from me. Salvador Dali, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Andy Warhol, and Gil Elvgren are my main influences.
Artists Who Receive My Admiration
Some of my favorite artists are my little girl, Victoria Frances, the Grominator, SOAK, Young Jarus, RASCO, and MECRO. Art is so broad and there are so many artists out that I can’t possibly list them all that I like. In fact, I find new ones every day. I often find that influence comes in waves for me. For instance, right now, I’m more into graffiti art than anything else. To me, a “trip to the gallery” is going downtown and walking the railroad tracks. There's So Much Beauty in the World...
I like the closing monologue of American Beauty a lot and it says things better than I can. Some of the words are, “But it’s hard to stay mad when there’s so much beauty in the world…And, I can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life.” I don’t think any life is stupid but, the overwhelming beauty of it all and living life in a box is not something I want to do. I enjoy many things besides creating art.
I am passionate about Rottweilers and love spending time with mine. Music is another thing that surrounds me daily and I have a vast collection of it. Much of which is on vinyl records.
Exploring abandoned structures and places is another hobby I have developed. “Preserving the past before it becomes a parking lot” is my motto. You can see some photography from these adventures here. Hiking through forests, fields, and swamps gets as much of my time as I can allow too. All of this is great and gives me more opportunities to develop my friendship with my Rottweiler.
I am blessed to be a husband to a beautiful wife and the father of 3 daughters. My wife and I both love antiques so we visit all the antique malls we can and add to our collection. Spending time together as a family has taken us to many places but one common one is horror movie conventions where we enjoy collecting autographs.
