photography is another creative outlet that i take advantage of. i am an artist first and a photographer second, so, photoshoots with me will always be creative. PEOPLE are my most favorite subject to have on the other side of a camera lens but ABANDONED PLACES and RUST are other things that have always intrigued me. perhaps it’s the adventure in exploring ruins and junkyards, the time well spent with my faithful rottweiler, or a combination of both but, i cherish these adventures. FOG always casts its spell over me. EVERYDAY TRAVELS and the simple beauty of life are often great opportunities to put a camera to work as well. if you’d like to schedule some photos by invisible katana artwork, contact me HERE

the human ~

as far back as I can remember, people have always been my favorite thing to draw or paint. It started in church sketching people around me rather than paying attention to the speaker. it then, much later in life, transitioned into visiting the grocery store to buy bridal catalogs to redraw the fancy hair and long flowing dresses on brides for practice. now, when I’m not working on commissions, I’m still drawing and painting the human being. naturally, because I treat photography as an extension of art, the human is my favorite thing to have on the other side of the lens. want some photos by invisible katana artwork?

Fog ~

Something about fog makes for great photography. I love how the horizon disappears into waters and creates seamless skies. Or the mystery created by details that disappear within the blurred distance.

The photo to the right was the first I remember seriously taking that involved fog. I noticed this one morning on my drive home. The way the trees stood out and the background faded away grabbed me. I knew then that I loved fog in my photos.

Places - My Travels Eastward ~

every day I get to live, I consider an opportunity to look for the beauty in everyday life. Cell phones are as capable as most cameras and we all have them in our pockets. this makes it incredibly easy to capture life’s stunning charms as they occur. sunsets, nighttime city streets, flowers growing wild in a field, a bridge through a swamp as part of a hike, my dog running after his toy, or anything else that represents the simple and often overlooked things that make life great are chances to document via camera.

Poinsett Bridge (Landrum, SC)

History is so fascinating to me. Being able to capture it with my camera is such a joy. This is one of the oldest bridges in that state in which I live, South Carolina. It has a “gothic arch” and was built with no cement.

Rust ~

One of the paint brushes used by God is time and it’s often the color of rust. I love to find and photograph anything that has been sitting in the weather. The natural progression of age is fascinating subject matter that I love to capture with my camera. Vehicles tend to be great subjects for these qualities.

1940's Fire Engine (Greenville, SC)

I was on my way to a store in Greenville, SC recently when this rust gem caught my eye. I’m not sure what year exactly this engine is from but can you imagine the adventures this truck has logged?

1953 Packard (Anderson, SC)

Cars too can be works of art. If you don’t believe me, find a 1959 Cadillac. Anyway, rust and the art that is vintage cars is always a great find for me and my camera.

Abandoned ~

abandoned structures and places have intrigued me since my childhood. Close to my home where I grew up, there was an old mill that was owned by the famous Abney family. The adventures of our youth often put us wandering around these grounds, climbing the staircase with fold-over door, and walking the creaking hardwood upstairs floors, all while somehow avoiding the 20ft fall to our deaths from the open bay doors. Maybe this is why I’m still quick to explore such a place with Rottweiler by my side and camera in hand, my childhood adventures pick back up from 30 years past. ~My motto for abandoned exploration is “preserve history before it becomes a parking lot.”~

Pelzer Mill (Pelzer, SC)

Abandoned buildings always call out to me. They have since I was a kid. This one in Pelzer, SC needed to be explored. Catch history before it’s a parking lot.

Osaka Japanese Hibachi Restaurant (Anderson, SC)

I ate here once as a child. Little did I know that one day I would be walking the same floors in ruin with a camera. Exploring anything abandoned is a guaranteed adventure.

Downtown (Anderson, SC)

I’ve seen photos on the net from Anderson, SC in the 50s. I have said many times, I wish I could time travel. In a way, my adventures with my iPhone allow this superpower.

1920's Divver Masonic Lodge #349 A.F.M. (Anderson, SC)

Love the Freemasons or not, they are “Ancient” and so are a lot of their buildings. Many great men have joined this fraternity here at this lodge from the 1920s. I really enjoyed walking around this historical place. The officer stations were still intact, and the bead board and hardwood flooring were impressive. The floor in the upstairs lodge hall was falling through so, it limited how much exploring I was willing to do. Safety first.

Club Cognac (Anderson, SC)

Never had the opportunity to visit “Club Cognac” or any establishment this building on Highway 29 in Anderson, SC housed, until it was in ruin. I think this was a bar with dancers long ago. Not sure on all the history but enjoyed walking through it with my Rottweiler and full abandoned exploration team. This location is boarded up now. I’m glad we were able to explore it when we did.

I would love to see the inside of the abandoned Greyhound bus station in Anderson, SC. I’d love to repurpose that cube glass in a home too.

Gluck Mill (Anderson, SC)

Of all the abandoned spots I’ve explored, old mills have to be among my favorites. Perhaps it’s because as a child, we often played in an abandoned mill in Belton, SC. It brings back memories for me. I really enjoy just walking with my Rottweiler through these forgotten landscapes and wondering what it looked like in full production.
