So, I’m a fan of Wes Watson (see Blog#0037 for more). I don’t belong to his program and I’m not on his team but, I support his ideas and practice them. There is so much truth in what this man is talking about. If you want to change your life, change the way you think and talk to yourself. This is the main idea behind his message but, he goes so much deeper. Being that I have religiously watched his YouTube videos for the last 1.5-2 years every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I purchased and read his new book titled Non-Negotiable: Ten Years Incarcerated – Creating the Unbreakable Mindset. Let’s talk about it, or as Wes would say “let’s go!”
Wes just regurgitates the stuff on his YouTube channel in this 150-page dialog. I call it a “dialog” because reading it is like you are listening to a 150-page YouTube video. He writes exactly as he speaks. What do I mean? His intensity is very evident in his written word as in his speech. He uses all the same slang and profanity as in the videos too – even inserting profanity in the middle of compound words. I loved to do this when I used cursed words. This is important though because he preaches consistency. The personification of the teaching – practice what you preach. He does this. That’s one of my favorite things about Wes and his message – it is 100% consistent. You know what you are going to get on time every time.
He does take the opportunity to expand more on big ideas though. His YouTube videos are normally quick (8-10 minutes) so, he can’t unpack everything. In his book though, he has more time for this. In doing this he shares more personal stories too. I think this is a good point to dwell on for a minute. One thing Wes loves to talk about is that we only need to listen to people who are where we want to be. Anyone can tell you the best way to do something or how you should act based on what they’ve seen someone else go through but, only the people that have done it or made can really show you the path. To paraphrase Wes, never listen to a fat person if they are giving you advice on getting in shape or a poor person telling you how to get rich. Sharing more of the personal stories allows you to see, here again, that he really personifies what he is teaching people.
If you are into motivational speaking or writing, Wes Watson is for you. If you dream of or need a daily Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, USMC Drill Sargent to help you live life and change things, you need Wes Watson in your life. As with anything big Wes does, this book is very motivational, and it is absolutely worth the $15. Highlighted a lot. Great quick read. Going on the shelf.
