Galaxina Was Irritating
This had to be one of the most irritating movies I’ve ever watched. Honestly, it was an ultra-irritating knockoff of Star Wars overall. I was also considering The Bride of Frankenstein when deciding to watch this and should have picked the latter. Galaxina fell under “Comedy Sci fi” and my gut told me not to waste my watching time. Gut was right again, and I wasted my watching time. Boring or not, let’s blog on and talk about Galaxina!
A 27 Light Year Voyage and an Android
The basic story on this one is as follows. There’s a crew of Galaxy Police that have a female android named Galaxina. One of the crew members falls in love with her but, he gets shocked if he touches her. Orders come to the crew that require them to go on a 50+ year mission. Naturally for a sci-fi film, they go into cyro sleep until they arrive at the planet that is 27 light years away. During their slumber, the android flies the ship. She also learns to speak and programs herself to be warm like a human. When the crew awakes, she can now have a relationship of sorts with the human that loves her. As an android, she is sent into a western type of town in some far away galaxy to get a blue star. There, she is captured and then must be rescued by her boyfriend and the crew.
Irritating "Comedy" But I Did Laugh 3 Times
“Comedy” in this movie was of a Monty Python fashion, not that of Ace Ventura Pet Detective. For instance, an example of comedy in this movie is the gang that captures Galaxina. They are a motorcycle gang that rides horses and worships a god named “Ali David Son” (Harley Davidson). Although the humor was overall very irritating to me, there were 3 times that I actually laughed at some of it. So, a plus for this film, it got me three laughs. Many sound effects from other movies were “borrowed” in this movie. Normally, when I watch sci-fi, I like to watch serious sci-fi and not comical.
Cool Camera Colors for "Other Planet"
Being outside of the ship and on the foreign planet, the screen color changes to a red, orange, and yellow hue – an overlay I suppose. Artistically speaking, this adds a cool effect to the shots. I found this great. Nutrition had an interesting spin put on it in this movie. Capsules contained all the vitamins, proteins, fats, etc. that a person needed. I wonder if we as people will ever get to a place like this in real life. One where we can ingest a pill that offers all the nutrients needed in a whole meal in one tablet. It doesn’t seem too farfetched. Android, Galaxina, is played by a real actress. Some of the robots built today look very realistic. How farfetched are servant androids in the near future? A funny thing I read and noticed in the IMDB article is that the Batmobile can be seen parked in this western town. My viewing of these scene confirmed this to be true.
Galaxina Will Not Get a Second Viewing
It’s safe to say that for me, Galaxina will never be watched again. This movie was 1 hour and a half. Of that 1 hour and 20 minutes was filler and 10 minutes was something happening. IMDB reported that the lady who played Galaxina, Dorothy Stratten, was killed by her boyfriend in an unfortunate event 2 months after filming the movie. People find themselves in bad places in life, regardless of what it is they do for a living and it’s unfortunate. I believe she was 20 years old when she lost her life.
