Got to Love Trusted Sources
Overall, Vamp (1986) was an interesting vampire movie and was recommended by a trusted source. It has a different take on the creature and their involvement in society. I suppose a way in which they might hide. From Dusk Till Dawn is Vamp reminded me of. Vamp did predate From Dusk Till Dawn by several years though. Let’s talk about this vampire movie.
Basic Plot of Vamp (1986)
Basically, a fraternity has some initiates who have grown tired of the we’re going to make you think you’re about to die rights of passage. Everyone is in robes and the stereotypical get up. One of the guys makes a promise to deliver a dancer for a party in exchange for having to go through the ritual. The group agrees and the hunt begins, one that takes place in a town far away from their college. In this town, they find a night club ran by vampires and the fun begins. The vampires in this film look extra wicked too. No long black capes and widows’ peaks here.
Here's The Things That Caught My Attention
Some interesting things for me about Vamp were that one gang in the movie drove a hearse. I’m thinking it was roughly a 1958 Cadillac but, I’m not a car guy. There is also an old wrecker that can be seen in this film several times. The leader of this gang is played by Billy Drago. The main vampire is played by Grace Jones which I must say is very odd. This, for those who don’t know the name, is the lady who played the captive cut free by Conan in Conan the Destroyer. She had a dancer job and the clothes and background seemed like a Keith Haring painting. Grace Jones is cool as a warrior but was strange as a vampire leader.
Crafty Characters in Vamp (1986)
The characters’ craftiness stands out in this movie and that made it fun. For instance, they are leaving a sewer and open the lid to reveal the daylight. In front, the lead climber asks the lady behind him to go ahead letting the light hit her. He was sure he wasn’t a vampire, but his trick confirmed she wasn’t either. Artistically, there is a lot of cool things in this movie. Strong usage of pink and green neon lights is used in the backgrounds and several scenes, a theme almost. One room used often by characters is an office and the shadows are very heavy from the room’s blinds. This creates a cool lined affect across the shot as they are talking. Pink and green neon light is used here too.
Ending of Vamp Reminded Me of Something Disney Would Do With This
Disney wouldn’t have done this movie but, the ending reminded me of something they would do. A friend converted to a vampire has to follow his friends that were not beneath them in the sewer, at least until sundown. There was a comedy element to this movie. I enjoyed Vamp, but I don’t see myself watching this one again.
