I’m odd in a lot of ways but certainly when it comes to music. There are groups sometimes that I just feel like I should be a listener of. Yeah Yeah Yeahs is one of these groups. I don’t recall how I originally came across them, but their name has been with me for a while. I think it was the name that sounded cool to me originally and got me interested. I recently had a classmate mention them in a post and it rekindled my curiosity. When they dropped a new album on Apple this month, I hit play on this 8 song experience. Let’s talk about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs album “Cool It Down” for a few minutes.
So, I don’t know how to explain the sound. They are considered alternative, and I guess that fits. When I see the word alternative, I can’t help but think about 90s music like Nirvana and they definitely don’t sound like Nirvana. There is a heavy vibe to their sound that reminded me of this new low-fi music. There are some electronic sounds in the songs too. The lyrics are very well done. For me, this means they are a little cryptic and very poetic. I love songwriters with this talent. While there was a heavy chill affect, there was energy to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Cool It Down” too. On top of all that, it was very trippy in nature. I wish I would have found these guys in high school. There are so many different sounds piled up in these 8 songs but, it sounds great. It’s safe to say, Yeah Yeah Yeahs just got a new fan after this album. I’m buying a t-shirt.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs have a catalog going back to 2003 so, I’ve got more to listen to. I can’t say it enough – I love finding new music to dig into and explore. These folks are certainly worth listening to if you’re a music lover. I had to listen to this album in pieces while at work so, I may relisten to it first more attentively. Once I do, then I’ll go to their first one and listen forward. I’m curious to see how the sound has developed. I added 2 tracks to my playlist. These were “Blacktop” and “Different Today.” I would expect more from me on these guys later. Now, I’m off to eBay to buy that t shirt and probably a sticker for my gun safe too while I’m there.

I’ve heard of the band name but I initially thought they were a 70s punk band from NYC. Thanks for the enlightenment. I’ll check them out.
From what I quickly read; they were formed in NYC but in 2000. I’m not an expert on these folks, just getting started with them. I enjoyed this album. It had a unique sound. Thanks for the comment.
