Michael J. Fox is Awesome in Teen Wolf
Michael J. Fox must be one of the best actors of all time. Who doesn’t enjoy Back to the Future? Teen Wolf (1985) was another movie in his film history that stood out. I don’t recall having seen this one before, but it’s possible that I have. It piqued my interest mainly because my wife was considering this as a theme for trunk or treat for Halloween last year. Regardless, I watched Teen Wolf recently. Let’s talk about this 80s movie.
As a 3yo, I Missed Teen Wolf in Theaters
3 years were all that were on the calendar for me when this movie came out so, I know I didn’t see it in the day. Movies like this are rarely watched in my case. Two reasons that I say this. One, I’m not a werewolf character fan. Second, it’s just not really my kind of movie. Sci-fi and horror are the big genres for me. Anyway, this was a pleasant, clean, and fun movie.
Teen Wolf, A Snapshot of the 80s
Teen Wolf (1985) is a snapshot of the 80s. There wasn’t so much crazy hair and clothes, but there were vintage adidas basketball uniforms and shoes. Something that struck me the most though – the urinals in the bathroom. These toilets were all the way to the floor, and they were stacked catacorner against one another. I’ve never seen this, and I realize it’s weird that I notice stuff like this. Something I do remember from this time, from both the middle school and a church I attended, were the wooden bleacher seats in the gym. As kids we walked around everywhere, some of us from school, and this took me back too. Bowling allies are something you don’t see often in movies I watch, but Teen Wolf featured one. Saying it again, parties like these kids have didn’t exist that I remember either, even up into the 2000s.
Clean Fun for the Family in Teen Wolf with Michael J. Fox
Clean fun is offered in Teen Wolf which you don’t see too often anymore. A young man who is a loser in school is unaware that being a werewolf runs in his family. He learns this and is freaking out, as anyone would. When the real transformation takes place, his dad insists he open the bathroom door. He obliges his father who is standing on the other side of the door as a werewolf too. Funny scenes like this make you laugh as you watch. The father, in his younger days, intimidated a bully who is the son’s principle. Laughter is invoked when the father makes the principle urinate on himself, again. The boy becomes a class hero, accepts his differences, defeats a bully, and gets the best girl. All in great 80s family friendly fashion.
Michael J. Fox as A Wolfman in a Letterman’s Jacket
When we think Dracula, we think widows peak, black hair, dark eyes, etc. Wolfman’s character and you get the 70s hair covering the body, etc. Teen Wolf has the iconic wolfman look but, it fits well with the letterman’s jacket, adidas basketball uniform, and disco styled suit on a different and pleasantly unexpected level. Costume creators outdid themselves on this one. As the wolf’s popularity grows, kids’ opinion change. At one point during a basketball game where the wolf is putting all the points on the board, you see the cheerleaders doing a howl dance that reminded me of Thriller.
