Super-Fast Ride In American Muscle Cars Develops Great Characters – Death Proof

Tarantino is a genius, and you cannot go wrong with his movies. Death Proof is just more proof of this. Many movies have been on my television, phone, computer, etc. but nothing like this one. The basic story is that a stuntman (named Stuntman Mike) played by Kurt Russell stalks groups of women and uses his muscle car (a 1970 Nova prepped for stunt work) to murder them. Eventually, he trades this in for a 69 Dodge Charger with a duck hood emblem. Yeah, it’s wild but this is a grindhouse movie so outlandish stories are to be expected in this genre. The movie is long and packed with fast cars, girls, awesome acting, stunts, and a great story.

Wow! A Machine Gun Leg – Planet Terror is Classic Grindhouse

Overall, I find Planet Terror unique and so much so that it’s hard to talk about. It is a modern-day grindhouse movie that was made to be grindhouse on purpose and is very much a grindhouse movie. The movie has a lot of classic characteristics of this film genre. For instance, there is go-go dancing, flickering film, a retro/low-budget feel, lots of violence, and bizarre subject matter. All the explosions are over the top and the story is certainly strange. The blood is excessive and there are enough guns to be in any Arnold movie from the 80s. Planet Terror is essentially a zombie film but, the creatures are smart, fast, and strong. This adds a whole new “oh crap” factor to this classic monster. Like in 28 Days Later and others where zombies started running instead of only slowly walking, it takes the zombie problem to a new level.

Man riding motorcycle down a road into the sunset with the words Stone across the top and Take the Trip along the bottom; Stone (1974) original Australian movie poster

Stone is a Wild 1%er MC Ride Through ‘70s Australia

This movie is worth watching for the scenery alone. The countryside of Australia and the oceans are beautiful no matter what but factor in the awesomeness that was the ‘70s and you’ve got something to look at. Stack on retro pinball machines, pubs, and hand-painted tank art, and things are really getting exciting. From this senary, I drew many ideas and screenshots to paint. For instance, there are a couple of scenes that take place in a graveyard complete with paths and overgrown flowers that I think are Black-eyed Susan. These are among my favorite flowers. One biker spits blood on a gravestone featuring a death angle. Photoshop has a date with this scene but, she doesn’t know it yet.

Wild Effects, Hyped Kung Fu, and a Trucker – There’s Certainly going to be Big Trouble in Little China

Big Trouble in Little China offers a lot of fun things outside of great acting. There is Gordon Liu-level kung fun in the movie. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a Chinese kung fu movie but there’s enough in it that it’s worth mentioning. Pair the intense kung fu with Conan the Barbarian-level magic and Big Trouble in Little China becomes even more interesting. Get out your saltshaker, fill it with some half-cheesy half awesome special effects, and dust the kung fu and magic in Big Trouble in Little China and we’re having even more fun. One of the characters reminds me so much of Raiden from Mortal Kombat that I was expecting him to fly horizontally across the floor and scream some gibberish. My favorite was the lightning effects on the character reminiscent of Raiden and the green glow of the main villain, Lo Pan.
