BMX Bandits: Unveiling the Colorful 80s Down Under

As usual, I paid more attention to what was in the movie nostalgia-wise than the film. Especially since the film was more filler than movie – I watch movies often to stay awake so, I must find something that holds my attention within them. There were many common things in BMX Bandits but, this was filmed in Australia. So, even commonality had a foreign element. You can read more about filming locations here. Viewers can look for ice cream trucks, fire trucks, Castrol barrels, and a water park in BMX Bandits. A speedboat in BMX Bandits had some cool art painted on it that was fun. Learn more about the cars in BMX Bandits here. Another fun thing for me was the weird vintage pig masks worn by the robbers in BMX Bandits. Yep, this wasn’t a horror movie either. Or was it?

A woman screaming with prison bars behind her, in front of her a hand holding a whip - The House of Whipcord modified movie poster

House of Whipcord: A Mysterious Dedication

Honestly, I was concerned that House of Whipcord wouldn’t be up my alley. I’m not really into sadistic movies or torture stuff. I am a philosopher and I have my thoughts on these things but, this blog is not where I’ll share those. My expectation was not met and pleasantly so. Soon, the story began to unfold, and I realized there was a lot of plot and suspense in House of Whipcord. The element of surprise was used too – I mean, surprise the person you expect to be the hero is not.

Enter the Ninja: Semi Accurate Silly Shinobi Story

I am 100% on board and a fan of old school Shaw Brothers kung fu theatre mouth movements don’t match English overdub likely to be sampled on a Wu-tang album kung fu movies. In fact, I absolutely love them. When you pair pieces of this genre with the slightly realistic more serious American movies of the 1980s, it doesn’t work well. I expect whistling sounds as spears are tossed in a Shaw Brothers classic but not when a Ninja throws a bo shuriken. Or better yet, something happens and the wa-wa-wa sound plays – are you kidding me? Venarious must be the silliest mob boss in the history of films. For fun he wears wild robes and in the fashion of a conductor wand and all, conducts synchronized swimming. I can think of a lot better things that a mob boss could do with a pool full of girls.

Rock 'n' Roll High School Original Movie poster; Cartoon art shows Ramones and PJ Soles

Rock ‘n’ Roll High School – Great Recommendation by PJ Soles!

Rock ‘n’ Roll High School had some cool points. The coolest point is Ramones. I don’t care who you are, these cats were cool. I was a fan of Ramones before watching Rock ‘n’ Roll High School but now I’m really a fan. Once Ramones arrive, the remainder of the movie is mostly a music video. The soundtrack to Rock ‘n’ Roll High School features a lot of Ramones and it opened my eyes to a lot of their music. Do you ever listen to a band on record and love them, then hear them live and question how good they really are? Me too. Ramones are just as good live as on record. From their grand arrival in a pink 1959 Cadillac Fleetwood playing live music somehow with no power to the grand finale concert, the coolness of this early punk band fills this fun, wild story.
