Motorcycle clubs and the occult? Yes, this idea is what got me to this film. Algorithms are crazy things. I sat and talked with a man who had befriended a fellow who was in the process of joining an outlaw club. He explained that a conversation with his Harley Davidson riding company somehow went to the occult and MCs. My curiosity peaked, and I investigated this question – is there a tie between the two? Do MCs practice occult rituals, do they have occult knowledge or occult structure, what is this tie if there is any at all? Never had I heard this before. Google, I think, landed me on the title Psychomania or The Death Wheelers and the viewing began. Hop on your hog and let’s ride into a discussion about this very interesting English film from 1973!

Perhaps the most famous part of this movie and the maybe most well-known robot of all time is Robby the Robot. If you’ve ever seen anything on vintage sci-fi, you’ve likely seen this fellow. Not sure what I’m talking about? Dig the photo below this caption. Robby is a ‘50s sci-fi robot to a T. I can’t imagine anything getting close to him. He can replicate anything that you put in his tray. Our characters in Forbidden Planet test him with alcohol. Of course, he is programmable, and in Forbidden Planet his program won’t let him harm. Robby’s voice is another great addition to his character. It fits so very well.

The laugh, the Pee-Wee laugh, is a good one. You never forget it. Maybe that’s part of his success. If you get something that sticks, it makes you memorable. Being remembered is branding, branding is marketing, and marketing can become a lot of success. I read somewhere that Taylor Swift is great at writing uniquely catchy choruses and thus, her songs are more memorable than others – apply the previous equation and she has the success that she does. Some of his corny jokes stood out as well. Near the film’s end, the man playing “PW” on the screen at the awesome Drive-in Theatre complete with period sign is going in to kiss the attractive female playing Doddie and, he uses the “I know you are but what am I” line. You see it coming like a tornado in Kansas but still, I laughed out loud even at 41.
