The celebration featured at least four alters that included candles, photos of loved ones, tons of cempasuchil, and the favorite foods and beverages. There was also a live mariachi band that was singing classic songs for this holiday. There were lit inflatables to commemorate this holiday and several people were there observing the celebration and participating in song.

Rivendell, for those who don’t know, is a high end community in Anderson, SC off of Highway 81. Most of the folks who live there are upper class and the homes reflect this. Not that any of that matters, but it adds a unique element to the story. In Belton, where I grew up, Brown Avenue was the Rivendell of the day. Seeing the elaborate homes decorated with 10’ tall skeletons, graveyards, ghost children in swings, and projected ghosts on the walls reminds us that even if you’re a doctor, you can still enjoy life and our country’s holiday traditions. Bobby “Boris” Pickett’s anthem “The Monster Mash” rang through the neighborhood as bon fires burned beside residents with buckets of candy. The laughter and joy of children parading the streets is a very welcome, encouraged, and appreciated event on October 31st each year in Rivendell.

It has become a tradition for my family to attend the Mad Monster Expo in NC each year. We have been now three years in a row. For those that don’t know, these are events where fans can interact with actors, wrestlers, and many other celebrities. As the name suggests, this one is generally horror themed, but this is not always the case. My wife and I have been collecting signatures now for a while and we have some great memories and cool fan memorabilia as tokens of our adventures together. We went to the Mad Monster Expo primarily for Halloween franchise related signatures this year but, we met some other unique people as well. Let’s talk about Mad Monster Expo hosted in Charlotte, NC.
