Poinsett Bridge, Landrum, SC

The bridge has an interesting history. It is the oldest bridge in the state of SC and among the oldest bridges in the country. It was added to the historical registry in 1970. It was originally part of a toll road that was designed between 1817 and 1819 by a man named Joel R. Poinsett. The bridge was completed in 1920 and was part of a toll road. The toll road connected Charleston, Columbia, and Asheville. The bridge was built from wedge-shaped stones and no concrete was used in its construction (Putnam, 2016). If you examine the area, you can see that the stones were cut from the rock near the bridge. Some more interesting information about this bridge, and the reason I had originally heard of it, is that it is haunted according to locals. Some of the same stories that are told about any “crybaby bridge” in the state of your choice are told about this bridge too (Hawkins, 2022).

Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Greenville, SC

You wouldn’t think that going to a hospital would be a good experience but when it is, that says something about the place – something really good! I had the opportunity for a guided tour of the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Greenville, SC this weekend and acted on it. I have friends who belong to this organization. They have always told me that going to a Shriners hospital would change someone’s opinion of the organization, good or bad. They were not lying. This was an emotional but great experience for me.

Ms Be's Purple Bus in Ocoee, TN

Beautiful Purple Bus Has All Your Hippie Needs

All in all, this was a small roadside shop to purchase hippie-type items. She had a lot of clothes (some were handmade if my memory is correct), stickers of all sorts, glass items, keychains, anything you can think of Grateful Dead, etc. There was a sitting area in the front too which was nice. Or course, sitting anywhere in TN and just looking at the mountains brings a certain calm to anyone, I think. The company of the owner was great too because of her personality – when you meet a real hippie, you meet a unique person. Oh yeah, there was a constant sound of the Grateful Dead and other hippie-era bands playing on the bus’s sound system. I think I dropped $125 in this purple bus.
