A Bay of Blood: A 1971 Italian Slasher Masterpiece

A Bay of Blood keeps a medium but consistent pace and easily holds the viewers’ attention. Within the horror, there is a mystery element too. The plot quickly summarized – some people are trying to buy some bay property and are willing to kill to make it happen. Read a more in-depth review of the plot here or better yet watch the movie. A Bay of Blood is worth watching and watching again. This is a piece of influential horror history. If Sean Cunningham and others are talking about this movie, slasher fans must dive in. It’s like being a zombie movie fan and having never seen The Night of the Living Dead. The origin of the zombie as we know it today came from Romero’s classic. You should always look at the roots of something as a fan. Anyway, back to a horror classic, A Bay of Blood.

Hospital Massacre (X-Ray): Impressive & Overlooked 1981 Slasher

Hospital Massacre is consistently good. The pace is perfect and steady, the acting is convincing, and it keeps your attention for the entire duration of this Friday the 13th formula copycat. I was one year old when Hospital Massacre came out. I forget how I heard about this slasher movie, but the first viewing for me was on DVD. My friend during the early 2000s was a computer guy who would sell bootleg DVDs. I ran across Hospital Massacre or X-Ray and learned it was a VHS movie featuring the legendary Barbi Benton and that it had never been printed on DVD. That changed when my friend acquired it for me off the internet. This was my first experience with his great film. 2 or 3 more viewings later, here we are blogging about this gem.

The Stepford Wives (1975) – Eerie and Captivating Time Capsule of 1970s Culture and Feminism

You don’t need a film degree from Harvard or to be as smart as the doctor or scientist or whatever he was in this movie to see themes very evident in The Stepford Wives. Clearly, there are feminist vibes flowing throughout this 2-hour tale. Conversations between characters bluntly make these points in the clearest examples. No real heavy plot reviews in my blogs but, basically women are made into stereotypical housewife literal robots in this town. So, it’s easy to see where Women’s Lib is at the forefront of The Stepford Wives’ agenda. Another piece that I found interesting was that the President of the Men’s Club whose name was Dale “Diz” Coba. It’s the “Diz” part that I find intriguing. I wonder if this was a stab at Disney and the animatronics used at his theme parks. Perhaps even some characters in his movies?

Aerobicide – Get Your Heart Pumping in ’80s Campy Slasher

As soon as I read the words, “This campy slasher” I hit that arrow on Tubi and started the evening out. Ah, the power of words. To someone like me, this combination of letters will get a freeze and a response. Meriam and Webster say “campy” means absurdly exaggerated and Aerobicide or Killer Workout certainly is both. Not every time I find a movie described this way is a hit for me but, often it is. For instance, if I see a horror comedy, I can be almost certain I won’t enjoy a movie. There was plenty of absurdity to Aerobicide and it was a slasher following the typical 80’s formula.
